3/26 The World Tour Charity Gig…Thank you for your support!

Thank you so much everyone who came to support Windbeat on the 26th.

We really enjoyed the night, and we hope you did, too! We also managed to raise a lot of money for charity, which is now in the safe hands of the Japanese Red Cross.

118,896 yen!

The sum on this receipt consists of donations from the 26th and the previous weekend’s Neversearch gig plus ticket and CD sales!

There may still be more money to come in! Thanks again. A mighty effort from everyone.

It is so important that we keep trying to do as much as we can for our dear friends in Tohoku, so if anyone knows about anything going on, or wants to organize something themselves, please let us know here at the kochibeat!

The Perfect Hangover Cure: Healthy Udon at Hikaruya

We struggled into the centre of Kochi city; fuzzy-headed and weak-stomached after a few too many the night before. We knew that some nutrition was required, but what to eat? That’s when we stumbled upon hikaruya (ひかるや) shining at us just across from Harimayabashi.

The outside is wooden and serene. The inside is clean, friendly and mercifully calm. We were assigned to our own little room – not just becasue we looked a complete mess – but because the restauarant is made up of small ‘ko-shitsus’ – small private tatami rooms.

And the food? Lunchtime is all about udon. We went for the yuzu jelly and fresh veg udon. It was simple and delightful. And 630 yen. There is plenty of other choice and the daily lunch set looked lika a little bargain at 800 yen.

And the good news is that if you are feeling better a few hours later, you can go back for some Izakaya-style food in the evening. The tempura is delicious, sashimi fresh and grilled saba sushi unbeatable!

The details can be found here

Name ひかるや (Hikaruya)
Open 11:30 – 15:00 for udon and 17:00 – midnight for Izakaya

Now a Tohoku Earthquake Charity Event. Windbeat Concert. March 26th. Bee Station. 8pm

*Windbeat have decided to donate all profits from ticket sales and all money from CD sales at this concert to the Red Cross relief efforts to those affected by the Tohoku earthquake. *

It is hard to know what to do when we see such devastation, sadness and fear. We have decided to go ahead with this gig, but we really want to show our solidarity in some small way, by donating any money we make and CD sales to the victims of the Tohoku quake.

Please read below for details of the gig. And please let us know asap if you require a ticket for the event

As part of the ‘World Tour’ night, Windbeat will be playing live. In the city. Inside!  This is a rare treat.  We will be live, loud and in a warm space – Bee Station.

Expect something a little different – we won’t just be playing the songs from our EP – and we can guarantee a feel-good start to what could be a memorable Saturday night in town!  The mighty Fool and Loose, and the brilliant NEVERSEARCH will be playing after us.  And then… Check out our nightlife section for more info on a big club event on the same night.

2011 Month of Club: Cross Over Club Event 03/26

We all know when cherry , plum, and peach blossoms bloom, but if you were wondering when the People Blossoms bloom, it just so happens to be March, along with all the others!

You’ve probably seen our post for the Club Collaboration, Human Elements, but in case one all night club event isn’t enough for you in a month, there will be another on March 26.

Cross Over is the name of the event, and it will be kicking off at 20:00 on Saturday night.  If you’re game, the music and dancing will be going on until 5:00 the next morning.  From our experience at Musiq Lovers 2010, the prime time will probably be at about 2:00 a.m., when everyone in Kochi between the ages 18 and ‘never grow up’ will poor into the action.

The event is sponsored by the clubs Plus, One Love, and Love & Soul GET.  Take a look at the DJ’s and acts down below, and check the pictures for others for an idea of what will happen.

There will be, as these events have set as a standard, plenty of pole and belly dancing side action.

Live Gig Tip for March – The Okamoto’s

The Okamoto’s are coming!

This young exciting band are another group being talked about in gaikoku as well as Nippon. They are named after their favorite artist, Taro Okamoto, who is pretty cool.   Their main musical  influence is apparently the Ramones.  They are a bit bluesy, a bit rocky with a touch of psychadelica thrown in.

Young, brash, very talented and loud.  Rock on!

For further reading, check out this Japan Times article

And here is their website
